The Grossmont-Mt. Helix Improvement Association (“GMIA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit gmia.net (the “Site”), how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

  • Membership and event purchases. When you purchase a membership or event tickets, we collect the information needed to process the transaction, such as your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and order details.
  • Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe to our free email newsletter, we collect your email address (and name, if provided).
  • Contact and volunteer forms. When you contact us or volunteer, we collect the details you submit, such as your name, email address, and message.

Payment information

Payments for memberships and event tickets are processed by a third-party payment processor (PayPal). Your full payment card details are entered on and handled by that processor; GMIA does not store complete payment card numbers on our systems.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we automatically collect certain technical information through Google Analytics, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, referring pages, and the date and time of your visit. This is collected via cookies and similar technologies (see Section 4).

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To process and fulfill membership and event ticket purchases.
  • To send our newsletter and communications you have requested.
  • To respond to your inquiries and volunteer requests.
  • To understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve its content and performance.
  • To maintain the security and proper functioning of the Site.
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations.

3. We Do Not Sell Your Information

GMIA does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information — including customer, member, and event-attendee data — to third parties. We do not display third-party advertising on the Site, and we do not share your data for advertising purposes.

We share information only with the limited service providers that help us operate the Site (such as our website host, payment processor, and analytics provider), and only as needed for them to perform those services. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of GMIA, our members, or others.

4. Cookies and Google Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site and to gather analytics. We use Google Analytics to measure and improve how the Site performs. Google Analytics sets cookies that help us understand aggregate visitor behavior; the information generated is processed by Google in accordance with its own policies.

You can also control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect how some parts of the Site function, including the shopping cart.

5. Third-Party Services

The Site relies on third-party services to function, including our website hosting provider, our payment processor, Google Analytics, and our email newsletter provider. These providers process information on our behalf and are expected to safeguard it. The Site may also embed third-party content (for example, YouTube videos) and link to our social media pages (Facebook, X/Twitter, and Instagram); your interactions with those services are governed by their own privacy policies.

6. Data Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy — for example, to maintain membership records, fulfill event registrations, meet accounting and legal requirements, and send communications you have requested — after which we delete or anonymize it.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Privacy Choices and Rights

You may:

  • Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any email.
  • Request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you, subject to our recordkeeping obligations.
